Ikat or Ikkat is a technique for coloring fabric in patterns by resist dyeing. These patterns are not applied to the surface of a finished fabric, neither it is woven into the fabric structurally. Instead, piece of the yarns for the warp and/or weft are protected with a resist before dyeing.
